"Santa Monica BayKeeper has served as the watchdog for water quality in the Bay for 15 years. They have been led by extraordinary environmental leaders including Terry Tamminen, Steve Fleischli, Tracy Egoscue and now, Tom Ford. Generous support for Baykeeper has never been more urgent because environmental protection often gets overlooked during tough economic times."

"Baykeeper's innovative approach to on-line giving is just the sort of 21st century fundraising strategy needed during these economic times."

Mark Gold

President of Heal The Bay

During challenging economic times, as a fundraiser for a non-profit organization it would be easy to dwell on the problems of raising money, but not Laurie Feldman, that’s just not her style.

That’s why I am launching our first annual EcoGala.”

As an environmental group, we owe it to you and the planet to generate funds without taxing the earth.”

5 Ways to be green:

1. Take a pledge to protect our planet, put it in writing, and post it somewhere to remind you every day that you can make a difference.

2. Educate yourself. Fast fact: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is harming our environment, released into the air when we burn fossil fuels like oil (gas) and coal (electricity). Every aspect of putting on a lavish fundraiser, such as setting up a kitchen, lighting, building a stage and providing audio results in emitting CO2.

3. Conserve Water, install low-flow showerheads, faucets, and toilets. Turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth.

4. Turn off your lights when you leave the room. Tape down your switches to remind yourself to use natural light.

5. Unplug appliances you are not using….even if they are not turned on, they are still emitting CO2. Especially remember to do this when you go out of town.
